Since 1967, we have been committed to providing the best and most complete personal service to our clients.  Our objective is to develop relationships beyond the point of merely being our clients' tax preparer, but rather to become more of a partner or confidant in financial matters.  We take a vested interest in the success of our clients by being proactive in planning opportunities and by always being professional, respectful and courteous.

Our firm specializes in providing complete tax and financial services to dental and medical practices.  We also have developed strong niches in stock option planning and real estate consulting and accounting, among other things.

We are a local firm of eight employees, six of whom are CPAs.  We prefer our "small" size as we think it provides outstanding, consistent service by allowing the shareholders to maintain (not delegate) communication with clients.

Kirby S. Kanada, CPA

Kirby was born and raised in the Portland area.  He is the son of the founder of the firm, Robert Kanada.  Kirby graduated from Lake Oswego High School in 1983 and graduated with honors from Arizona State University with a B.S. in Accounting in 1987.

Out of college, Kirby began his career at Arthur Andersen & Company in the tax department of the Portland office.  In 1990, he joined his father's firm of Kanada, Staats and Erdmann.  During the next eight years, Kirby had the privilege of working closely with his father up until his father's retirement from full-time practice in 1998.

Now with over 27 years at Kanada, Aas & Company, P.C., Kirby still enjoys continuing the relationships with his father's clients and building new long-lasting relationships with his own clients.  He continues to focus most of his time on dental and medical practices, specifically with practice transitions, financing, accounting systems and adopting practice specific retirement plans.

When he is not working, Kirby enjoys spending time with his wife and two daughters.  He also enjoys competing in half-marathons, marathons and various road biking events and loves to fish whenever he has a chance.

Michael R. Aas, CPA

Mike grew up in Portland and graduated from Beaverton High School in 1983 before packing his bags and travelling all the way across town to attend Lewis & Clark College.  He graduated from Lewis & Clark in 1987 with a B.S. in Business Administration.  In college, Mike was a member of the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi and Beta Alpha Psi Business Honor Society along with being awarded AICPA Accounting Student of the Year as a senior.  Later, Mike received the Oregon Society of Certified Public Accountants' President's Award for the top score in Oregon when he took the CPA exam for the first time.  Of course, this simply means he studied too much.

Mike has nearly 27 years experience in public accounting, including the first five years with Arthur Andersen & Company where one of his fellow 1987 "rookies" was Kirby Kanada.  Mike joined his old friend Kirby in 1997 and for the last 20 years has enjoyed a terrific partnership at Kanada, Aas & Company, P.C.

Mike enjoys spending time with his wife and three children, either in the Portland area or on-the-go around our beautiful state.  He enjoys staying active by playing pretty good basketball, average tennis and poor golf.
