Preparing your own income tax return can be a task that leaves you with more questions than answers. According to a study released by the US Government's General Accounting Office last year, most taxpayers (77% of 71 million taxpayers) believe they benefited from using a professional tax preparer.

Whether we like it or not, today's tax laws are so complicated that filing a relatively simple return can be confusing. It is just too easy to overlook deductions and credits to which you are entitled. Even if you use a computer software program you still need to know which questions to answer or which boxes to check.

So how do I get started with your firm:

  • First, call us to introduce yourself and learn more about our firm.  During the phone call, please feel free to ask as many questions as you like.  We will be happy to discuss things such as our role as a tax preparer, our fee structure and what records we need to get started.
  • Next, if you decide to move forward with our firm, we will recommend you schedule an appointment as soon as possible.  At the meeting, we will review your past two years tax returns to get familiar with your tax situation and see if there are any tax planning opportunities to consider before the end of the year.  We will also use this time to become more acquainted and answer any additional questions that come to mind.
  • In early January, we will send you a copy of our firm's tax organizer to assist you in gathering the necessary information to prepare your tax returns for the year.  When you are ready, you can deliver, mail or email your records to us or call us to make an appointment if other questions or concerns have come up.  Within a couple weeks, we will go through your records and contact you if we need additional information or have additional questions.
  • Finally, after your tax returns are complete, we will notify you when they are ready to be picked up.  If you like, we will review the filing instructions with you when you come by.  All Federal and State tax returns are electronically filed unless there are unusual circumstances.

We look forward to working with you.  If you have any additional questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.
